HOW DO I KNOW IF I REALLY NEED A POWER FLUSH?

The classic signs are: radiators cold at the bottom but hot at the top, banging noises from the boiler, gas bills creeping up year-on-year, slow warm-up times, and visible black sludge in the magnetic filter (if you have one). We diagnose with thermal imaging and a magnetic filter check — we’ll tell you honestly if a flush is the right answer or if individual radiator cleaning would do the job.

HOW LONG DOES A POWER FLUSH TAKE?

A standard 3–4 bed home takes 4–6 hours. Larger homes (5+ bedrooms or unusual layouts) can take 6–8 hours. We start early in the day and aim to be finished by late afternoon, so you’re not without heating overnight. The system runs as normal as soon as we leave.

WILL A POWER FLUSH DAMAGE OLDER SYSTEMS?

Properly done, no — and that’s the key qualification. Cheap or rushed power flushes have been known to disturb old leaking pipework. Our process is thorough but controlled — we monitor pressure throughout and address any weak joints found during the flush. We’ll always survey the system first and flag any concerns before quoting.

WILL IT MAKE MY HEATING BILLS LOWER?

Yes, usually noticeably. A clean system circulates faster, the boiler reaches target temperature sooner, radiators warm more evenly, and the whole system runs at lower temperatures more efficiently. DO YOU FIT A MAGNETIC FILTER WITH THE FLUSH?

Yes — every power flush includes fitting a magnetic filter at no extra cost. Magnetic filters capture sludge particles before they settle in radiators, extending the benefits of the flush by years. We use Adey, Fernox or Spirotech filters depending on the system.

IS A POWER FLUSH REQUIRED BEFORE FITTING A NEW BOILER?

Yes, in most cases — and it’s a manufacturer requirement for most warranties. Fitting a new boiler to a sludged system would void the warranty and damage the new heat exchanger within months. We always recommend (and usually require) a power flush as part of any new boiler install — usually quoted as one combined job.
